Commentary

“We refuse to adulterate or handle dishonestly the Word of God; but we state the truth openly, clearly and candidly. And so we commend ourselves in the sight and presence of God to every man’s conscience.” II Corinthians 4:2b, Amplified.

The PREFACE explains the method I have used to interpret the Book of Revelation. My method is to contextualize by examining the processes of canonization and translation and the historical, linguistic and religious context.

The INTRODUCTORY ARTICLES deal with issues applicable to the whole Book:
OVERVIEW gives a “roadmap” of the setting of the book in relation to the Book of Daniel, and the stucture of the book as an integrated whole; how each part contributes to the whole structure: the Churches, the Seals, the Trumpets, the Plagues and the Denouement and how all the parts unite to make a strong statement for application of the message.
COMMENTARY: A chapter by chapter and verse by verse exposition and commentary of the Book of Revelation, with footnotes citing relevant research and literature.
Introduction to “Context”
REFERENTS: Essay on definition of “referents” as ‘meaning in context’. Bible referents are primary. Referents from other contemporary literature are also cited: Rabbinic, Apocryphal, Pseudepigraphic and Historical.
1. Bible Referents
2. Referents from Rabbinic Writings
3. Referents from the Apocrypha
4. Referents from the Book of Enoch
BIBLIOGRAPHY: List of works I have read or consulted.
