Chapters 17-19

17:2, 10, 12, 18. “…Kings of the earth….”

Enoch LXIII.1, 4-12: “1. In those days shall the mighty and the kings who possess the earth implore Him to grant them a little respite from His angels of punishment to whom they were delivered, that they might fall down and worship before the Lord of Spirits, and confess their sins before Him…4. ‘We have now learnt that we should glorify And bless the Lord of kings and Him who is King over all kings.’ 5. And they shall say: ‘Would that we had rest to glorify and give thanks And confess our faith before His glory!

“6. And now we long for a little rest, but find it not: We follow hard upon it and obtain it not: And light has vanished from before us, And darkness is our dwelling-place for ever and ever:

“7. For we have not believed Him, Nor glorified the name of the Lord of Spirits, nor glorified our Lord  But our hope was in the sceptre of our kingdom, And in our glory.

“8. And in the day of our suffering and tribulation He saves us not, And we find no respite for confession, That our Lord is true in all His works, and in His judgements and His justice; And His judgements have no respect of persons.

“9. And we pass away from before His face on account of our works, And all our sins are reckoned up in righteousness.’

“10. Now they will say unto themselves: ‘Our souls are full of unrighteous gain, but it does not prevent us from descending from the midst thereof into the burden of Sheol.

“11. And after that their faces shall be filled with darkness And shame before that Son of Man, And they shall be driven from his presence, And the sword shall abide before his face in their midst.

“12. Thus spake the Lord of Spirits: ‘This is the ordinance and judgement with respect to the mighty and the kings and the exalted and those who possess the earth before the Lord of Spirits.”  (pp. 83-4.)

18:3, 9. ‘Kings of the earth’- (See 17:2, 10, 12, 18 above).

18:17-18.  “…And every shipmaster and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea,  stood afar off, and cried ….”

Enoch CI.4-5: “And see ye not the sailors of the ships, how their ships are tossed to and fro by the waves, and are shaken by the winds, and are in sore trouble? 5. And therefore do they fear because all their goodly possessions go upon the sea with them, and they have evil forebodings of heart that the sea will swallow them and they will perish therein….  9. Do not the sailors of the ships fear the sea?  Yet sinners fear not the Most High.”  (p. 145).

19:1-6. “…a great multitude in heaven, crying, ‘Hallelujah!….”

Enoch XCIV.10: “…. He who hath created you will overthrow you, And for your fall there shall be no compassion, And your Creator will rejoice at your destruction.”

Enoch XCVII.2: “Be it known unto you (ye sinners) that the Most High is mindful of your destruction, And the angels of heaven rejoice over your destruction.” (p. 138).

19:12. “Name…which no man knoweth…” (See 2:17 above).

Enoch LXIX.26-7, 29: “26. And there was great joy amongst them, And they blessed and glorified and extolled, Because the name of that Son of Man had been revealed unto them.  27. And he sat on the throne of his glory, And the sum of judgement was given unto the Son of Man, And he caused the sinners to pass away and be destroyed from off the face of the earth, And those who have led the world astray…. 29. And from henceforth there shall be nothing corruptible, For that Son of Man has appeared, And has seated himself on the throne of his glory, And all evil shall pass away before his face, And the word of that Son of Man shall go forth And be strong before the Lord of Spirits….”  (p. 92).

19:14. “…armies of heaven….”

“And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones to execute judgement upon all, and to destroy all the ungodly…” (Enoch I.9. p. 32).

19:20. “…thrown alive into the lake of fire….”

“4. And again the Lord said to Raphael: ‘Bind Azazel hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness:…. 6. And on the day of the great judgment he shall be cast into the fire….”  (Enoch X.4, 6. p. 37).

“LIV.1. And I looked and turned to another part of the earth, and saw there a deep valley with burning fire. 2. And they brought the kings and the mighty, and began to cast them into this deep valley.  3. And there mine eyes saw how they made these their instruments, iron chains of immeasurable weight.  4. And I asked the angel of peace who went with me, saying: ‘For whom are these chains being prepared?’  5. And he said unto me: ‘These are being prepared for the hosts of Azazel, so that they may take them and cast them into the abyss of complete condemnation, and they shall cover their jaws with rough stones as the Lord of Spirits commanded.

“6. And Michael, and Gabriel, and Raphael, and Phanuel shall take hold of them on that great day, and cast them on that day into the burning furnace, that the Lord of Spirits may take vengeance on them for their unrighteousness in becoming subject to Satan and leading astray those who dwell on the earth.'”  (pp. 71-2).

Enoch XC.24-27: “And the judgement was held first over the stars, and they were judged and found guilty, and went to the place of condemnation, and they were cast into an abyss, full of fire and flaming, and full of pillars of fire.  25. And those seventy shepherds were judged and found guilty, and they were cast into that fiery abyss.  26. And I saw at that time a like abyss was opened in the midst of the earth, full of fire, and they brought those blinded sheep, and they were all judged and found guilty and cast into this fiery abyss, and they burned; now this abyss was to the right of that house.  27. And I saw those sheep burning and their bones burning.”  (p. 127).

Enoch XCI.9: “And all the idols of the heathen shall be abandoned, And the temples burned with fire, And they shall remove them from the whole earth, And they (i.e. the heathen) shall be cast into the judgement of fire, And shall perish in wrath and in grievous judgement for ever.” (p. 131).

Enoch XCVIII.3: “Therefore they shall be wanting in doctrine and wisdom, And they shall perish thereby together with their possessions; And with all their glory and splendour, And in shame and in slaughter and in great destitution, Their spirits shall be cast into the furnace of fire.”  (p. 139).

Enoch CVIII.3-6: “And wait ye indeed till sin has passed away, for their names shall be blotted out of the book of life and out of the holy books, and their seed shall be destroyed for ever, and their spirits shall be slain, and they shall cry and make lamentation in a place that is a chaotic wilderness, and in the fire shall they burn; for there is no earth there. 4. And I saw there something like an invisible cloud; for by reason of its depth I could not look over, and I saw a flame of fire blazing brightly, and things like shining mountains circling and sweeping to and fro. 5. And I asked one of the holy angels who was with me and said unto him: ‘What is this shining thing? for it is not a heaven, but only the flame of a blazing fire, and the voice of weeping and crying and lamentation and strong pain.’ 6. And he said unto me: ‘This place which thou seest — here are cast the spirits of sinners and blasphemers, and of those who work wickedness, and of those who pervert every thing that the Lord hath spoken through the mouth of the prophets — (even) the things that shall be.”  (p. 153).

19:21. “…and all the birds were gorged with their flesh….”

Enoch XCVIII.13: “Woe to you who rejoice in the tribulation of the righteous; for no grave shall be dug for you.”  (pp. 140-1).
