Chapters 14-16

14:4. “…not defiled with women….”

Enoch X.11-16, pp. 37-8.  “And the Lord said unto Michael: ‘Go bind Semjaza and his associates who have united themselves with women so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness.”  This passage refers to the fallen angels who were thought to have co-habited with women and brought into the earth a wicked generation of people.  These angels were thought to be reserved for the final judgement when they would be committed to a prison of fiery torment for ever and ever

Enoch XV.2-8. pp. 42-3.  “[Enoch is sent to intercede for the fallen angels, the Watchers, and is told:] “2. And go, say to the Watchers of heaven, who have sent thee to intercede for them: ‘You should intercede for men, and not men for you: 3. Wherefore have ye left the high, holy, and eternal heaven, and lain with women, and defiled yourselves with the daughters of men and taken to yourselves wives, and done like the children of earth, and begotten giants (as your) sons. 4. And though ye were holy, spiritual, living the eternal life, you have defiled yourselves with the blood of women, and have begotten (children) with the blood of flesh, and, as the children of men, have lusted after flesh and blood as those also do who die and perish. 5. Therefore have I given them wives also that they might impregnate them, and beget children by them, that thus nothing might be wanting to them on earth. 6. But you were formerly spiritual, living the eternal life, and immortal for all generations of the world. 7. And therefore I have not appointed wives for you; for as for the spiritual ones of the heaven, in heaven is their dwelling. 8. And now, the giants who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling.”

Enoch XVI.3, p. 44.  “[Enoch is told to say to the Watchers]: ‘You have been in heaven, but all the mysteries had not yet been revealed to you, and you knew worthless ones, and these in the hardness of your hearts you have made known to the women, and through these mysteries women and men work much evil on earth.'”

This view of the origin of evil explains why ‘the knowledge of good and evil’ in the Garden of Eden was so bad: It was only partial knowledge of the spiritual mysteries.  It was thought that the Watchers who co-habited with women and produced the giants had imparted this partial knowledge of the mysteries to these women.  This was the knowledge used by magicians, soothsayers and astrologers.  (See also Enoch XIX.1-2).

Enoch LXIV.1-2: “1. And other forms I saw hidden in that place.  2. I heard the voice of the angel saying: ‘These are the angels who descended to the earth, and revealed what was hidden to the children of men, and seduced the children of men into committing sin.'”  (p. 85).

When the Lord was about to destroy the world in the days of Noah, Enoch explained the reason:  Enoch LXV.6: “…And a command has gone forth from the presence of the Lord concerning those who dwell on the earth that their ruin is accomplished because they have learnt all the secrets of the angels, and all the violence of the Satans, and all their powers–the most secret ones–and all the power of those who practise sorcery, and the power of witchcraft, and the power of those who make molten images for the whole earth:….”  (p. 85).

There is more concerning these fallen angels in other sections of the book of Enoch.  (See especially, LXIX, pp. 89-90).

14:14-19. “…so the angel…gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great wine press of the wrath of God.”

Enoch C.4: “In those days the angels shall descend into the secret places, And gather together into one place all those who brought down sin, And the Most High will arise on that day of Judgement, To execute great judgement amongst sinners.”  (p. 143).

14:20.    “…and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles….”

In context of civil war – – Father against Son and Brother against Brother:

Enoch C.3: “And the horse shall walk up to the breast in the blood of sinners, And the chariot shall be submerged to its height. [p.143]

15:5. “…the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened….”

Enoch XCI.13. “… and a house shall be built for the Great King in glory for evermore.”  In context of time of righteous  rule.

16:6. ‘Blood’, see 8:8 above.

16:12. “…kings of the east”

Enoch LVI.5-6: “5. And in those days the angels shall return And hurl themselves to the east upon the Parthians and Medes: They shall stir up the kings, so that a spirit of unrest shall come upon them, And they shall rouse them from their thrones, That they may break forth as lions from their lairs, And as hungry wolves among their flocks. 6. And they shall go up and tread under foot the land of His elect ones, And the land of His elect ones shall be before them a threshing-floor and a highway:….”  (pp. 73-4).

16:20. “And every island fled away and the mountains were not found.”

(Enoch LI.4, p. 69).  “4. And in those days shall the mountains leap like rams, and the hills also shall skip like lambs satisfied with milk, and the faces of all the angels in heaven shall be lighted up with joy.”

(Enoch LII.6-9, p.70).  Enoch is shown the ‘seven’ metal mountains of iron, copper, silver, gold, soft metal and lead: “6… All these shall be in the presence of the Elect One, As wax before the fire, And like the water which streams down from above upon those mountains, And they shall become powerless before his feet.  7. And it shall come to pass in those days that none shall be saved, Either by gold or by silver, And none be able to escape.  8. And there shall be no iron for war, Nor shall one clothe oneself with a breastplate.  Bronze shall be of no service, And tin shall be of no service and shall not be esteemed, And lead shall not be desired.  9. And all these things shall be denied and destroyed from the surface of the earth, When the Elect One shall appear before the face of the Lord of Spirits.”

Enoch LIII.7, p. 71. “7. And these mountains shall not stand as the earth before his righteousness, But the hills shall be as a fountain of water, And the righteous shall have rest from the oppression of sinners.”
